CONSUMERS WARY ABOUT PUTTING CREDIT CARD INFO ONLINE
February 22, 2008
Worries about identity fraud and other security issues appear to be impacting e-commerce transaction volume, according to a survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project. While roughly 70 percent of Internet users polled said they viewed online shopping as a convenience, roughly 75 percent said they do not feel comfortable sending personal or credit card information over the Internet.
"These inconsistent notions about the online shopping environment show that, even as e-commerce matures, people’s confidence in the security of online shopping remains as an issue," said John B. Horrigan, associate director of the Pew Internet Project.
