Walnuts - Health Benefits
November 13, 2007
The American Heart Association and the Food And Drug Administration are now telling us the benefits of Walnuts. Most of us have known about the benefits of olive oil. It is considered a ‘good fat’. Of course, anything in excess is not good for our bodies. There is another fat on the horizon – walnuts. They can be eaten as a snack or used as an ingredient in one of your favorite recipes. There is also Walnut Oil which can be used on salads, on vegetables and in everyday cooking. Either way – it could be beneficial for your health.
The FDA “concluded that supportive research shows walnuts may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease when consumed as part of a low saturated fat and low cholesterol diet and not resulting in increased caloric intake.” More research is needed to prove the benefits and effects – whether they are best eaten raw or used as oil – and whether heating and cooking will affect the benefits they provide. But, they are showing to be another healthy addition in living a healthy lifestyle.
